Since the Barlow maneuver page wasn't up yet when I split the above page off from the canine one, I put the text below on the Hip dysplasia (human) page. Should this page (Ortolani test) be moved or deleted at some point in the future, please put the text below or something similar back on the Hip dysplasia (human) page.

Example: With the baby placed on a firm surface in the supine position, the examiner will flex the thighs to a right angle to the abdomen and the knees at right angles to the thighs, grasp each thigh with one forefinger along the outside shaft of the femur, with the middle finger on the greater trochanter and thumb medially. The examiner will then adduct both femora fully and push down toward the bed. (Barlow test/maneuver) For the Ortolani test the examiner will then gently abduct each leg from the position of full abduction so that the knees come to lie laterally on the table. During adduction, the greater trochanters are pushed medially and forward with ones fingers.

Combine this page with Barlow maneuver?

[edit]

The two usually are done together and it would make for a longer article that's less in danger of being deleted. --Lisa4edit (talk) 03:48, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is a positive or a negative result good?

[edit]

In other words, does a positive or a negative result indicate displasia? MaigoAkisame (talk) 18:06, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
