Operation's name
[edit]There is usually a rationale for the naming of a military operation. Why would the occupation of a foreign country be called "Blacklist Forty"? Was there an actual blacklist of forty Communist sympathizers designation for roundup during this period? Was the name suggested by the nicotine-based pesticide "Black-leaf 40"? There should be a paragraph in the article addressing this. 72.105.74.92 (talk) 12:38, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- I found some documents about the planning for this operation and I think I can provide a bit more explanation. The "Blacklist" operation was the US's plan govern Japan and Korea after the cessation of hostilities. Operation Plan No.1 was given the code name Baker-40, that part of the plan dealt with Korea. Presumably at some point either officially or by mistake "Blacklist" and "Baker-40" combined into "Blacklist-40". I found an online version of one of the documents here http://www.mansell.com/pow_resources/recovery/Basic_Outline_Plan_for_Blacklist_Operations_1945-08-08_POW_camps_p134-163.pdf Hunter12396 (talk) 22:40, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Merge?
[edit]Should this be merged into United States Army Military Government in Korea? It overlaps pretty heavily toobigtokale (talk) 03:21, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
