Onward Post Office

[edit]

According to OnwardStore.com, the store was established in 1913. Where was the post office before that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.255.96.241 (talk) 20:35, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Did Onward move?

[edit]

The last statement in this article "The settlement likely moved to avoid flooding of those waterways." appears to be speculative. The location on the map, Northwest of the junction of Deer Creek and Black Bayou, corresponds to Hill Plantation. Ground elevations at the current location are (via Google Earth) are similar to Hill Plantation. Flood risk would be similar at both locations. A more likely explanation for the current location is the proximity to the railroad. During the early 20th century, the railroad offered passenger service at the Onward depot. In fact, nearly all of the villages along the current route of Highway 61 in the South Delta were railroad stations. 206.255.97.189 (talk) 05:51, 8 May 2023 (UTC) Also note that "Reality" refers to Reality Plantation (still in existence as a farm shop). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.255.97.189 (talk) 05:54, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
