Fair use rationale for Image:On a clear day you can see forever.jpg

[edit]

Image:On a clear day you can see forever.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Infobox

[edit]

Why is there a film infobox with this article, which primarily is about the stage musical? MovieMadness (talk) 14:44, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The film article needs to be split off. This has been on the to do list at WP:MUSICALS for a while, but no one has gotten to it yet. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:13, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to create a separate film article, but I'll leave it to someone connected with the musical theatre project to clean up this article. MovieMadness (talk) 14:40, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added the image of the original Playbill cover so whoever adds the theatre infobox will have it at his or her disposal. MovieMadness (talk) 16:12, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Something needs to be done to adjust the blurred image! MovieMadness (talk) 17:35, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Image needed to be adjusted to 135px for clarity. MovieMadness (talk) 18:37, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good, thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:00, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ravel influence??

[edit]

Both this article and the article on Ravel's ballet Daphnis and Chloe state without citation that the song "On a Clear Day" is based on a passage from the "Dawn" section of the latter former. There is indeed one motif- a set of similarly eight notes common to both, but was it consciously borrowed?? The 1st and 3rd note in "ON a CLEAR day" are a 7th interval apart, the 4 notes forming a minor seventh. But the similar sounding motif in "Daphnis and Chloe"'s "Dawn" passage goes up on a 6th interval instead of a seventh, so while they sound superficially similar, they are really not.

Sometimes musicians borrow unconsciously or two musicians borrow from a common source. George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" borrowed unconsciously from the pop song "He's so Fine", and there remain some significant differences in melody. Bob Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather" has the identical melody note for note as Donovan's "The Ballad of Geraldine" but both seem to have borrowed from the same earlier folk melody.

So can we really state that the opening (two or three) bars of "On a Clear Day" was knowingly borrowed from Ravel's dawn? This assertion is unsourced in both articles.

Placing Citation needed tag.--WickerGuy (talk) 04:07, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It only sounds vaguely alike, and I can't find a cite for it. I !vote to remove mention of Ravel from this article.Anythingyouwant (talk) 20:58, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I found a ref and inserted it, removing the "cn" tag.Anythingyouwant (talk) 21:16, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
