This article claims he received Rabbinic Ordination,"the only example of it being given to a non-Jew". Presumably, this is talking abt his relationship with Rabbi Yonasan Eibeshutz, who conferred upon him the title of "Chaver" ("Companion", but refers to a member of a pietistic Order). He may have intended it as the closest thing to ordination for a nonJew, and the term has been used for learned non-Jews who attach themselves to Jewish community faithfully without the desire to convert. It's not the same, exactly, as ordination. More study is needed!
