Cleaning Up / Sourcing

[edit]

I think this is a nice page and worth being kept, but it needs some work. Some of the information is excessively wordy, there are no sources, and some of the info seems to be very PSU-biased while at other times, very OSU-biased.

I'm gonna take a stab at this. I hope someone else pitches in as well or at least offers criticism. Bramton1 (talk) 19:48, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is still a poorly written entry. 127W111 (talk) 13:53, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current Win Streak

[edit]

What would the current streak be? Right now it is on the page as Ohio State, 8 games (1998-present), which does not count the vacated games by Penn State (or Ohio State) at all. Is this correct? or should the streak be written as Penn State, 1 game (vacated), or N/A, or something completely different? I am trying to find a precedent with previous vacations of wins in rivalry articles, but I can not find one, especially one of this magnitude Frank AnchorTalk 16:09, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And if the Bucks were to win this year would the Streak be Ohio State 9 games, or 1 game? Frank AnchorTalk 16:09, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

it would be 9, Ohio State would have every non-vacated win since 1998 so that would still be an active streak (1998, 2000. 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012)

so in summary, according to the NCAA the series record for Ohio St is 13-13 while for Penn St it is 8-14

However, while the NCAA does not consider those games to be Penn State wins, they also *do* consider them to be Ohio State losses. The win streak noted is thus meaningless. Also the number of losses for Penn State has to be the same as Ohio state wins, which in the example above they are not. Vacated wins were not turned into losses. Or are you considering the Ohio State vacated season too in that number? Kgilbert78 (talk) 22:05, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Entry vandalism

[edit]

Changes from 96.241.211.252 are vandalism.

Official score of 2014 game is OSU 31-24 (2OT)

Is there a way to add back in the attendance?

Not a rivalry

[edit]

OSU VS PSU is not a rivalry, it can still be a page, but don't call it a rivalry. Please Annon974 (talk) 04:50, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's not as big for both teams as Penn State-Pitt or Ohio State-Michigan but it's definitely a conference rivalry game. It's a lot like Michigan-Michigan State or USC-Notre Dame.

Would a Controversy section be in order? It's abundantly clear that the "true rivalry" question is highly polarizing and inextricably tied to the series. I think that the disputedness should be noted somewhere in the article, just not sure where. This would also, ironically, justify the notability of the article.

Hoyadonis (talk) 17:00, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's necessary. There's no controversy about this being a rivalry or need for additional notability. The article's existence means it already has notability. The series between the two schools has been a major matchup more times than not and there's definitely a rivalry (see the many whiteout games Penn State does for OSU and the "blackout" game OSU did for Penn State), even if it isn't the primary rival for either team. Neither school has the long history with each other like Penn State does with Pitt or OSU with Michigan, but it's also not just a standard conference series, like OSU-Indiana or Penn State-Purdue. I've seen discussions among Penn State fans that since joining the Big Ten, OSU is the main rival, especially since the series with Pitt has been interrupted three times (5 year gap in the 1990s after PSU joined the Big Ten, a 16-year gap after the 2000 game, and now no future games scheduled after the 2019 meeting) while OSU and PSU have met every year for nearly 30 years now and have regularly met as ranked or top-10 teams. --JonRidinger (talk) 16:12, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Annon974 you are correct. It is not a rivalry. They've played each other what 36 times in the 130 years Ohio State has been a program. 75.118.137.40 (talk) 19:22, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
