History: Where is Al-Zahrawi?

[edit]

The Islamic surgeon Al-Zahrawi was perhaps the inventor of forceps (at least according to one book I read). In his own wiki article it says "Al-Zahrawi also described the use of forceps in vaginal deliveries.[7] He introduced over 200 surgical instruments.[8] Many of these instruments were never used before by any previous surgeons." Should he not get a mention?

"Barbaric" is not helpful

[edit]

One set of forceps by the Chamberlen family is denigrated for "the barbaric nature of the design". The adjective "barbaric" certainly needs clarification, if not replacement. Does this mean that the metal was not smooth? Or the angle of the forceps was likely to be injurious to the mother? Or what? The adjective needs improvement. I removed "barbaric" since it is unclear and open to misunderstanding.Pete unseth (talk) 16:35, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict between articles

[edit]

I noticed that this article and the ventouse article both state that said device is safer than the other. Clarification is needed. 2605:A601:A18B:2C00:9311:38DE:CA71:3E14 (talk) 12:01, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
