Monitoring only of Donbas?

[edit]

The current state of this article leaves the question of exactly what parts of Ukraine were being monitored very unclear, except to say that the "area of operation" was what OSCE SMMU covered. Without knowing what this area of operation was, the reader is forced to guess. It also makes the current full withdrawal from Ukraine seem odd, since much of the western part of Ukraine is "only" having missiles drop on it without being invaded by Russian ground forces.

My understanding (based on some of the reports) is that the monitoring was mainly of the Donbas region (on both sides of the line of contact). But someone (or some people) should check this properly and clarify the article, based on good sources. Boud (talk) 23:35, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Poorly prepared evacuation in Feb/March 2022

[edit]

A summary of https://www.politico.com/news/2022/06/10/inside-the-osces-botched-withdrawal-from-ukraine-00038847 is needed - seems like OSCE senior management didn't prepare serious contingency plans for the "Putin is crazy enough to launch a full invasion of Ukraine" scenario. "including regular Russian troops"

OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine#Timeline of events

The phrase implies that it was proven even before the Mission started that "regular Russian forces" were involved in the war; the source given is an anti-Russian NGO. We are in 2024 now so either update the article with the results of an official investigation or rephrase it to indicate that it is an unverified supposition; if later is the case, you should also add "neo-nazi battalions" on the side of governmental forces (https://web.archive.org/web/20220311001054/https://www.amnesty.org/en/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/eur500402014en.pdf) Klehus (talk) 13:08, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
