Notes column

[edit]

What do others think of the idea of adding another column to the table, for (very) brief notes/trivia about the player? Could be particular to that season and explain why they won. --Dweller 11:47, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. You've done some excellent work on this page! Demonicanglian.
Thanks! Now I just need some help doing that! :-) --Dweller 11:17, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverse Chrono list

[edit]

I seem to have got a go-ahead to reorder this more usefully, based on Wikipedia:Help_desk#Chronological_lists. --Dweller 10:21, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Level"

[edit]

I think readers would be interested in knowing at what level the season was played, ie Premier League, etc. I propose to add this, after the season year column, with 1/2 wikilinked to Premier League, Championship etc, to avoid confusion over the changes of name down the years. Anyone object? --Dweller 13:41, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No objection from me. I wonder also about adding their nationality regardless of whether they played for their country? Then add caps etc in the notes? The Rambling Man 13:48, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm ahead of you! See the history for my recent edit summaries. --Dweller 13:57, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Get the caps out of the nationality column, looks untidy to me. I want that nationality column to be neater. The Rambling Man 15:13, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. Yes, it does look a little untidy. So how would you indicate internationals? Seperate column for caps, with a blank for 0s? --Dweller 15:18, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd just add it to the notes, but perhaps it's worth asking if it's actually relevant? The Rambling Man 15:19, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's a fair comment. I've tried to think what someone might want to know that's broadly relevant. So, for a certain year, they'd want to know the winner, what position he played in, what level the matches were at. I think it'd be useful to know nationality and if capped, especially for the older players that people may not remember - I didn't recognise the name of a former City player who turned out to have won 5 caps for Scotland in the days when caps meant something! I think it's defensible. In the notes seems too untidy too, as it'll mean a proliferation of notes. --Dweller 15:23, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, perhaps a column for caps? The Rambling Man 15:51, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now remove the "caps" from each row and left justify the notes column... The Rambling Man 16:19, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Caps - good suggestion. Left justify? How? --Dweller 18:47, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will investigate.. The Rambling Man 19:04, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My 2p/3.5€ worth

[edit]
  • If we can dig up a PD photo of a player being presented with the award I'd strongly suggest we use it. If no-one can find an free image, we could arguably get away with a scan from the press or a programme as "essential to illustrate the article", but I wouldn't like to be the one arguing with that case with the Fair Use Police. At the very least, there ought to be a picture of the trophy - it's just plain odd to have a picture of the Capital Canaries award but not the BBMT;
I agree. I've contacted some fans, to see if I can get anywhere. I might also contact the club themselves. --Dweller 12:38, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think it would be useful (if anyone can be bothered to rifle through a stack of old EDPs) to include some quotes from recipients of the award. While it may just be that I notice NCFC related things more, I get the feeling that it's treated more seriously than player-of-the-year awards at many other clubs;
Nice idea. It's easy - I found loads of stuff online about Huckerby and Doherty's 3 recent wins (between them). I'll find some appropriate snippets. --Dweller 12:38, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I second Dweller's point above about a "why they won" section - some, like Gunn in 92/93, make quite interesting stories in themselves. Maybe instead of putting it in the table, which will make it big & unwieldy, have a "pure" table and then the "profile" sections as level 4 headings in a paragraph at the end of the article - this could also include info like caps which isn't directly relevant to NCFC. I'd also support a "what happened next" for the players - if nothing else to show that our best players don't always get poached at the end of the seasoniridescent (talk to me!) 12:28, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure about this one. --Dweller 12:38, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The "why they won" will necessarily be patchy and for past seasons, likely to end in POV or blanks. I think we'll have to depend on wikilinking to the player bios for that. Same for what happened next. I think you and The Rambling Man are arguing opposite extremes and I'm somewhere in the middle, which (arrogantly?) reassures me I'm heading in the right direction. This article needs to be fairly pure reflection of the POTY award winners: not so inflexible that there's zero context, not so flexible that it becomes an all-about-the-40-winners page. Hope that's reasonable. --Dweller 13:08, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article move under discussion

Please see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Norwich_City_player_of_the_year and keep discussion centralised there. Thanks. --Dweller 14:43, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Carlo Nash

[edit]

As you can see, The actual award winners names have been changed to Carlo Nash in years he has not won this award, They is also something at the bottom confirming he has never won it, we need to make this information accurate again and protect it to avoid edits like this in the future.
