History

[edit]

It seems to me that the "history" section of this article could be expanded quite a bit given the kidnappings, burnings, abandonment, and other such issues from Northfield's early history. - Denimadept 18:09, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right now, frankly, the history section having to do with the English settlement and Indian attacks is a mess. The current text that talks about the Native Americans "successfully defending the territory" or the older text that talks about several Indian attacks is particularly useful. I suggest these sections be rewritten shooting for a more NPOV. Possible sources would be "History of the Town of Northfield" http://www.archive.org/stream/historyoftownofn00temp/historyoftownofn00temp_djvu.txt which details the relations between the various tribes at the time the English purchased the land as well as accounts of the various waves of abandonment and resettlement. I think the article would be well served by the inclusion of some of this material.
I will undertake to make some edits myself, but wanted to raise the issue here first in case anyone had strong feelings on the subject or if they wanted to recommend better sources or even an alternate approach. Neltana (talk) 04:29, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good. Someone needs to. - Denimadept (talk) 16:28, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And at some point I will get off my butt and do so. I honestly had meant to get to it by now. I was hoping the Wiki-elves might have gotten to it before me. Neltana (talk) 22:22, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Town history isn't my "thing". I do bridges. But I suspect there's a historical society in Northfield which would be all too happy to provide information. As a side-note, has there been any movement regarding the Schell Bridge, or is it just going to keep rusting in place and fall on some canoer?- Denimadept (talk) 23:13, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
