Despite the difference between Balhae and Silla (incl. Koryo); two countries shared relatively friendly relation, almost no recorded of wars between them. It is said to be merchants from each side freely traveled between the boarders and shared cultural exchanges. People of Goryeo did not show people of Balhae as foreigners but rather saw them as distanced cousins.
