Northern end?

[edit]

Where is the northern end currently? Constellation or Albany? Nurg (talk) 03:05, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Albany. See here for Northern Express (NEX) services. Akld guy (talk) 04:23, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Nurg: Your question was a little ambiguous. Services run south from Albany Park and Ride station as I stated above, but the dedicated bus lanes begin at Constellation, leaving the section between Albany P & R and Constellation not yet completed. Akld guy (talk) 04:42, 26 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Akld guy: Thanks for your replies. Yes, the official view seems to be that the Northern Busway ends at Constellation, but includes Albany. I have yet to see an explanation that makes sense of that. I've seen hints that there is the "Northern Busway" and then there is a wider thing that is the "Northern Busway system". Perhaps Albany is part of the "Northern Busway system", but not part of the "Northern Busway" itself. Nurg (talk) 08:08, 26 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Nurg: Perhaps this will clarify it. Northern Express services run between Albany P&R and Constellation P&R using local roads, and from Constellation the dedicated busway lanes run alongside the motorway as far as Akoranga Station. From there, it's one-way only (southbound) as far as the approaches to the harbour bridge at Northcote. The Albany - Constellation section is not yet an exclusive lane system like the other sections, but it's coming when expenditure can be justified. The Constellation - Akoranga section is two-way and is also used by local North Shore bus services bothways. For example, the 130 service from Takapuna to New Lynn via Greenhithe travels between Smales Farm station and Constellation station. The 555 service from Birkenhead via Northcote similarly uses the Akoranga to Smales Farm section. I have used both services many times. Many other North-Shore-only services use portions of the dedicated lanes the same way. Akld guy (talk) 09:54, 26 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
