Question About Sacramento/North Highlands Reference
[edit]Having grown up in North Highlands, CA, I thought I would see what Wikipedia had to say about it. There is a reference to one of its notable residents; one Anthony J. Pidcock II (1977 - Present). I've never heard of Anthony and wanting to know more about a famous former resident and Highlands High School alumnus, I immediately searched on his name. I found nothing. He even shows up in the Sacramento write up as a "Famous Resident." Others on the list have hyperlinks on their names, but his does not. I suspect he may have edited the article to bogusly insert himself. I personally know of people from North Highlands who have gone on to do some really great things, but I've never heard of Anthony.
I also noted that the list of Sacramento famous residents has people listed that I would question. One is an NBA player who was only there for a few years. The others seem to be politicians. Well, since Sacramento is the Capitol of California, there are a lot of politicians who have lived there, and many are more famous than the ones listed. I didn't see Leo J. Ryan, the US Congressman killed in the infamous 1978 Jonestown, Guyana massacre by Jim 'don't drink the Kool-Aid" Jones. One of my sisters told me he was her Political Science instructor at American River College before he died. There were many celebrities who lived in Sacramento while I was growing up, yet the only people listed are all still living. There were also local home-grown athletes who went on to fame in their sports; what about them?
I suggest you contact the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce or some other community organization and have them vet these articles.LABoomer54 (talk) 21:56, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- I too was raised in North Highlands, my family moved there around 1958 and my mom and brother still live there. I've never heard of Mr. Pidcock either. A web search comes up with nothing. I was looking for a wiki template to mark that spot as questionable, for example,
{{notable}}
, but that one didn't work well, and I couldn't find another. I thought about erasing him, but that seemed a bit bold. Donpayette (talk) 14:20, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
