Praise

[edit]

No discussion for Norman? This guys is pure class and is totally underrated as a director and a human being. And how did this page become low priority? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.161.125.254 (talk) 18:32, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This comment must have been made well before the present article took form. Santa Claus should get such press.--Reedmalloy (talk) 02:09, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

BA

[edit]

Who puts BA after their name? Isn't that a little...pompous? KHorberg (talk) 10:24, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2 questions

[edit]

the article on ll.d. suggests that it is usually an earned degree. if so, where and when did he attend law school? if it is honourary, when and who gave it to him; and it should be listed under 'honours'. also, it seems appropriate to ask, given that he has spent much of his life in the u.s. - what navy? - usn or rcn?Toyokuni3 (talk) 22:29, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Silliness averted

[edit]

Yes, it is ridiculous for someone to use the "BA" after their name, and I sincerely doubt Mr. Jewison would do it himself. Also, there was no information on imdb or anywhere on google mentioning the LLD (as earned or honorary) except for sites which were blatantly replications of this wiki article. I've removed both leaving only the Order of Canada honor because I assume that one is correct. If there is any verifiable information about the LLD then by all means, add it back in, but as for now simply deleting them both seems the best case of action. Adding a picture

[edit]

My photographer friend took a nice, dignified picture of Mr. Jewison that we'd like to add Creative Commons-style, but we're not sure how. If someone could, we'd appreciate it! http://www.flickr.com/photos/thestrand/2869637554/ for the photo and credit to Joshua Freedman. Thanks and sorry for the not doing it myself... don't want to mess up the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.151.164.86 (talk) 19:31, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The license tags on the photos are not usable in Wikipedia photos. Check Flickr licensing rules and make any changes or else upload them to WP:Commons as agent of the owner giving all rights to use them. In any case, let us know when anything is done so we can add the excellent photo. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 04:10, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Categories for American films

[edit]

Assuming "American film directors" is the same as "Directors of American films." Focus is on the film as opposed to the director's nationality. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 04:02, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

mistaken for Jewish? huh? pertinence?

[edit]

Why would his entry--which is not even particularly long--include the fact that he was mistaken for being Jewish? Wikipedia entries on people come off as being *obsessed* with a person's Jewishness. Might want to pull back on that a bit, collective editors. Susan.dicey.k (talk) 12:05, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can't provide a cite at the moment, but I've heard Jewison speak several times in interviews about being mistaken for a Jew because of his name and having at least suspicions that it affected his career. That seems notable to me. Monkeyzpop (talk) 03:56, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the adjective "alliterative" -- this is an incorrect use of the word (sorry). His name would be alliterative had it been "Judy Jewison" or "Normy Newison." — Preceding unsigned comment added by OldCommentator (talkcontribs) 12:33, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dead?

[edit]

I notice that the page for Jewison's latest movie, "The Statemant" says "This was the final film for Jewison, director of such acclaimed films as In the Heat of the Night, The Thomas Crown Affair and Moonstruck." Why final? Retired? Dead? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.162.220.96 (talk) 21:01, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
