'Present day' section - contradictory information

[edit]

This section, which I have broken up into smaller paragraphs from one block, has contradictory statements on two aspects which may merit a checking which information is up to date:

"The village shop is in Wentnor parish and is 1/3 mile away. Wentnor store sells locally sourced produce, alcohol, sweets and newspapers...Although there are not any shops in the parish itself [my emphasis] there are two busy high-streets in the neighbouring towns Clun.."

"Although there are not many events in Norbury people are attracted into the area due to events occurring in the neighbouring towns or parishes....Many tourists come to Norbury to do cycling or walking routes, photo walks or to enjoy one of many fete and fairs [my emphasis]".Cloptonson (talk) 20:05, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Forton (Staffordshire not Shropshire)

[edit]

The postcard picture is not of Norbury, the subject of this article, but of Forton which is in Staffordshire but is near Newport, Shropshire (as per postcard). This should be deleted.Cloptonson (talk) 20:12, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information on Forton

[edit]

I have deleted this paragraph for non-relevance to this article on Norbury, Shropshire. It would be more appropriate to put in an article on Forton, Staffordshire. (See also previous talk point.):

Forton Hall was built by a Mr Skrymsher of Norbury Manor at the end of the 17th century and is situated next door to the church of All Saints. In 1729 five new bells were given to the church. The most prominent monument is the alabaster tomb of Thomas Skrymsher, knight of Aqualate and his family.[1]

Aqualate is in the parish of Forton, Staffordshire, although addressed as being near Newport, Shropshire. It was latterly home of the family of Boughey Baronets, whose family graves are in Forton.Cloptonson (talk) 20:20, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I shall move this information to the article on Forton, Staffordshire, likewise the postcard picture.Cloptonson (talk) 20:23, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done, but the picture is not easy to find to move.Cloptonson (talk) 20:33, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Have moved picture to article on Forton, Staffordshire.Cloptonson (talk) 05:31, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hardwick Hall

[edit]

Be it added for error or joke, the inclusion of Hardwick Hall is irrelevant to Norbury, Shropshire. The Hardwick Hall described is Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire, built in 1590s and belonging to the National Trust (which does not own a house of such a name in Shropshire). I will delete it.Cloptonson (talk) 20:33, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Interest to "WikiProject Cities"?

[edit]

I doubt this article on a Shropshire village and country parish has any interest at all to WikiProject Cities and propose it be deleted from the head of the Talk page.Cloptonson (talk) 13:04, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Location of parishes of Norbury, Wentnor and Myndtown

[edit]

The History section of the Norbury article states: "Over time the boundaries of the parish have not changed, however the parish is separated into two halves due to the boundaries of Wentnor parish."

According to the maps of 1900 and 1931 this cannot be so, unless the parish of Myndtown was formerly part of Norbury. The maps locate the township of Asterton in Myndtown parish while this article states that it is part of Norbury. Additionally, A Vision of Britain through Time provides a description of Myndtown parish circa 1870 which states that the parish was in existence at that time.

The parishes of Norbury and Myndtown may have merged since the 1930s. If so, this should be explained.
