The BBC project WW2 People's War contains contributions from the public. For example the reference in this article. The copyright statement on the project website I think can by sumarised as 'not for profit, give credit'.
I propose to copy the articles in the project with credits PeterGrecian 12:59, 29 September 2006 (UTC).
- Unfortunately, Wikipedia does not accept content with restrictions on commercial use; while the Wikimedia Foundation itself is a non-profit, many reusers of our content are for-profit enterprises, and would therefore be unabe to use Wikipedia if it containted content with such restrictions. - Just the discussion I was hoping for. Is'nt it GFDL the same ? The BBC say 'website the public needs to pay for to obtain'. Well they don't need to pay - which is I think the 'original document ... must be made available to the work's recipient' in GFDL. Actually I've just noticed 'Original text and images should not be modified' which probably prevents use of text, but maybe not images. What do you think? PeterGrecian 15:43, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- Not quite. The problem is the requirement that "If you wish to use the content in a commercial context (eg a publication, CD or website the public needs to pay for to obtain, or a project such as a broadcast series or film), please contact the BBC to obtain permission." If something with this restriction were included on Wikipedia, it would conflict with the idea that people should be able to use our content equally regardless of what they're using it for. (Among other things, it would cause problems for anyone distributing Wikipedia on CD/DVD.)
- Having said that, it may be possible to make a fair use claim for some of the images there. Kirill Lokshin 23:15, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Aircraft Incorrectly Included
[edit]Me Bf 109, serial number ES906 should probable be deleted as it crashed in October 41, and the 1426 Flight was only established in November. Catsmeat (talk) 00:23, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- It's not listed in Butler's War Prizes under the list of 1426 Flight aircraft. I haven't found it in the overall book (which is a hard search).Andy Dingley (talk) 17:13, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the correction; I had expanded the previous listings using notes my father, a former ground crew member with the flight, had written some years ago and must have forgotten to cross check that date!! regards Harryurz (talk) 14:34, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
