On the novel
[edit]As the novel is virtually unknown outside Japan, the presence of the novel and (in my personal opinion,) the influence it had in the Japanese society seems to be underestimated. Please do not ignore the presence of the novel before the release of the heavily-edited anime. --朝彦 (Asahiko) 03:22, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. The picture next to the page should definitely be a cover from one of the novel publications. I'll see if I can find mine, and scan it in. LionKimbro 08:25, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Can someone tell me why there are no references on this article?? It's very strange. I have a collection of articles and such available about Miyazawa, but nothing here is referenced, which makes it essentially useless... Cinnamingirl (talk) 12:51, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like someone erased the References section. I edited it back in. --朝彦 (Asahiko) (talk) 14:42, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Inspired GE999?
[edit]"The idea of a steam locomotive running through the stars inspired Leiji Matsumoto to create his famous manga, Galaxy Express 999."
I understand the temptation to see GE999 as an offshoot from Ginga Tetsudou no Yoru.
That said, I seem to recall Leiji Matsumoto stating emphatically, in response to an interviewer, that he had not been inspired by Ginga Tetsudou no Your. (I think he said he didn't even know about it at the time..!) Surprising and dodgy, I know-- but, this might be something to do some fact checking on.
If I run across the cite in my anime books again, I'll be able to back this up. In the meantime-- caution! LionKimbro 08:25, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know, LionKimbro. No one has challenged the corresponding statement in the Japanese article ja:銀河鉄道999 despite its many edits, and a Google search like, for instance "galaxy express 999 miyazawa kenji" etc. only turns up statements like [1] which supports the connection between the two. However, if Leiji did say something like that, it'd be a valuable thing to add to the article. If you find anything in your books, please edit it in. --朝彦 (Asahiko) 08:56, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
For Campanella
[edit]What about the vocaloid song by Sasakure.uk 'For Campanella' by vocaloid GUMI / Megpoid? The whole song is SOAKED in references to this work. In the PV for it they randomly show quotes from it as seen in the video here: [2]. Mew Mitsuki (talk) 19:05, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Split
[edit]somehow, i fail to find a significant guideline for the treatment of original work and adaptation in the same article, but i feel the anime should have its own article. k kisses 14:50, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- It is common for books to have a film spin off. If the spin off is separately notable then it probably should have its own article. In this case, the film doesn't appear to be separately notable so it is probably left as it is, i.e. someone made a film of the book. If it can be shown that the film is separately notable then all means split the article. Op47 5 Jan 2013
Plot summary
[edit]The plot summary in this article has a lot of differences (though minor) from the version of the the novel I read, and appears to me to be based of the anime film rather than the novel. However, given that there are four versions of the novel, I'm not sure whether this is the case or it's just based on a different version. Has anyone encountered a version of the novel that does line up with this plot summary, or does it need to be changed?211.31.199.36 (talk) 11:03, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
Different versions
[edit]I would be very, very, very interested in knowing how those versions differ, and what the story is behind the existence of four different versions of a novel, and how far apart they were published, etc etc. If someone can add this information, it'd really enrich this article. Cheers — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8A0:7C0B:3A01:313F:5393:ED6:2E10 (talk) 11:14, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Plot summary
[edit]Can someone figure out why the word "kitten" is getting added and removed from the summary section. Cats are exclusive to the animated movie, the book does not imply the characters are cats in any way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.48.164.184 (talk) 01:28, 25 September 2019 (UTC)
