uniformity

[edit]

A local Nigerian insists to make this page somehow different, while I tried to uniform like e.g.  Germany,  France,  Italy, and others. And who is the third party @OmoYoruba45:? Perhaps @GiantSnowman: or @S.A. Julio: can help me to tell this rather new user. – Flix11 (talk) 18:13, 15 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How is it different? have you seen the United state U-20 women soccer team page? You have no right to decide what is redundant or not every information on the page is useful. You claim to be making it similar to that of Germany's team but you deleted the African U-20 Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournament section which is equivalent to UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship(it is included on the Germany u20 page) this alone proves to me that your are not African or Nigerian and you lack the necessary knowledge to edit the page. You also deleted the flag of Nigeria on the pages name section and also the flag showing the coach is Nigerian, again this is very unnecessary and can be regarded as vandalism. You also deleted the write up that gave a detailed explanation on the Nigerian national Team -"Its primary role is the development of players in preparation for the senior women's national team. The team competes in a variety of competitions, including the biennial FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and African U-20 Cup of Nations for Women , which is the top competitions for this age group." Deleting this information clearly shows that you have no good intention in editing the page. How is any of the information I mentioned not useful? @Flix11:Please explain you reason for your disruptive editingOmoYoruba45 (talk) 18:56, 15 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@OmoYoruba45: See any pages aside of your beloved country, and you will see NONE use flags on team's name. Second, qualifying for World Cup alone is NOT an achievement. In the U-20 (or any tournaments) you have to fill the stage last played by the team, not merely "qualified for the World Cup". And it is not belongs to achievements section, it belongs to tournament record. Third, where any other page in ENGLISH Wikipedia uses trophy graphic (Coppa Africa, etc.)? I believe NONE other than pages of your country, but this only exists in ITALIAN Wikipedia. Do not know Nigeria? That only confirms my thought that you think you are the only one owns the truth and the only one allowed to edit on Nigeria; let me tell you something: YOU ARE NOT. I understand football, Nigerian football as well, and I believe that things should be done properly using the example of popular pages like  Germany,  France,  Italy, and  England and be OPEN-MINDED on changes and fixes. Even  Indonesia do not place their coach right above the squad (usually, on any other countries pages on different section with a table contains coach, his assistant(s), manager, physio, etc.). This only applies to tournament squads like in 2006 FIFA World Cup squads. If I am a disruptive editor like you have said, I would not have reached 49K+ edits with only 1 redirect-caused block (lasted 15 hours) over the past 8 years. I would have been blocked for good (or more than 15 hours, namely 24 hours) on FIVE HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE edits for either vandalism or violating WP:3RR. From what I have seen, you have ZERO, even minus intention to discuss with cool head. Please read Wikipedia:Assume good faith and Wikipedia:Dispute resolution before even saying my edits are disruptive. Many of my edits were reverted, but if the revert person can explain the reason, I will appreciate it. You are nowhere near that. Thank you anyway. – Flix11 (talk) 02:11, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Flix11: I have to say am sorry if I came on a little bit strong but I wasn't sure if you were legitimately trying to edit the page or vandalize it so my apologies. On the flag issue you're right teams don't use but the Nigeria Wikipedia community decided to use the flag to differentiate it from Niger a country beside Nigeria that is always mistaken for Nigeria or vise-versa. On the Issue of the qualified for the World Cup It is an achievement because it is the highest level of competition for the U-20 women team on the Africa continent just like South American U-20 Women's Championship is the biggest in South America for the age group so I disagree with you on that, it is an achievement. On the trophy graphic issue many African countries use it on the Honors and Achievement section for example, Egypt, Ghana, Cameroon and a lot of other African countries use it but they don't use it in the "Info box" section. It was decided by the Nigeria Wikipedia community to use graphics like this on the info box to make the page look nice just like how it is used on the basketball page of many countries like Spain men's national basketball team, United States men's national basketball team, etc. I hope I explained myself. On the Nigeria national football team apart from the graphic issue the only think i disagreed with was removing the Medal Record from the info box because it is U23, why I disagree is that countries like Argentina national football team, Uruguay national football team and Brazil national football team also use it. I hope I explained myselfOmoYoruba45 (talk) 03:24, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@OmoYoruba45: Those are wrong. All teams from 1992 Olympics onwards (including 1996) are the U23, not the senior like you mentioned. See the difference in Germany national football team and Germany Olympic football team. Medals, I am good with that. Uruguay won back in 1924 and 1928 so was still the senior one. Brazil and Argentina, I will fix both. Thanks. How about the others?

@Flix11: All national teams that have won the Olympics after 1992 have the medal table on their page. Mexico national football team also has it. The only thing I disagreed with on all the edits you made on the other pages except from removing the graphic is that you removed the Football at African games for the 2019 edition from the U20 teams and added it to the under 23 team. What you didn't know is that the 2019 edition was played by the u 20 teams so it wasn't wrong. Lastly I see that Argentina national football team as the graphic on the info box and Honors Section. Are you going to remove it?OmoYoruba45 (talk) 15:21, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Response to third opinion request:
While it's not mandatory that all articles be written in exactly the same way, the fact that many similar pages do things a certain way is at least a strong presumption that there is a general consensus to do them that way. I am not sure what is meant by "Nigeria Wikipedia" (Nigeria does not have a single language, though there are Wikipedias written in Hausa, Yoruba, and other languages spoken there), but what they decided is not particularly relevant to how we do things on the English Wikipedia. Given that, I would encourage excluding the flag in line with the other similar articles. So far as the medals, some of what's being discussed there is unclear, but it seems there's at least a rough agreement forming there so I'll leave that one alone. If it turns out not to come to agreement, please feel free to put another request if needed.
