Swedish priest

[edit]

User:Cimmerian praetor, you wrote most of the article, do you know if Campanius was actually a priest as mentioned in the first sentence? I don't think that is obvious from the rest of the article.

Also pinging User:Tomas e, who added Category:Swedish priests and User:WeyerStudentOfAgrippa, who added short description: "Swedish priest (1593–1624)". TSventon (talk) 12:51, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I generally assign categories, when those are missing, based on what is mentioned in the article. Almost 10 years ago in this case. Tomas e (talk) 13:30, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:Tomas e, I don't think you or WeyerStudentOfAgrippa did anything wrong, I just pinged you in case you knew more about the subject than is written in the article. TSventon (talk) 14:04, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:FBQ, as author in 2010 of the se Wikipedia article on Campanius, do you know if he was actually a priest? I read the article in Svenskt biografiskt lexikon and it does not mention the word präst. TSventon (talk) 14:12, 29 March 2021 (UTC).[reply]
I wrote the swedish article based on Svensk uppslagsbok. There he is called priest. From what I can find in Svenskt biografiskt he never served as priest. It does not mention if he ever recieved ordination as such.FBQ (talk) 18:18, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:FBQ, do you think there is an easy way to correct the articles? If it would be difficult I am happy to leave them. Both se sources seem to be about 90 years old which is not ideal, while the en article seems to be largely based on Rome and the Counter-Reformation in Scandinavia (Garstein, 1992). I originally wanted to know if Campanius was a Catholic or Lutheran priest and the answer seems to be (possibly) Lutheran. TSventon (talk) 12:46, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure. He studied at a jesuit college. He later confessed to wearing jesuit clothing and taking part in catholic ceremonys.FBQ (talk) 13:51, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:FBQ, I would suggest he is notable as a Catholic convert, not a priest, so präst/ priest could be replaced by Katolsk konvertit/ Catholic convert. Alternatively präst could be replaced with skolrektor in the se article and priest removed from the en article leaving Rector of a school in Enköping, Sweden. Sure, sounds good to me.FBQ (talk) 14:42, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:FBQ, done, hopefully correctly. TSventon (talk) 15:00, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
