Is the chembox accurate?

[edit]

Does the chembox apply to the true dinickel boride Ni

, or to these "nickel boride" catalysts with apparently still uncertain composition? --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 22:31, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with your skepticism, although I am no expert. My cynical guess is that "it" is another one of those compositions that is (somewhat) useful in organic synthesis but the organic chemists that coined the name and made the stuff are not going to pursue its characterization. One clue is that there are different preps that yield distinct reactivities. I dont even know if a chembox is useful.--Smokefoot (talk) 22:39, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, IIRC even C. A. Brown himself wrote that the nature of the compounds was indeterminate. --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 01:25, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
