Birth place
[edit]So was he born in Haydock, or St Helens, as both are presently mentioned ?!

I don't know... but the Verve met at college in Winstanley which is part of the Wigan Borough so it is considered by most people from the area as being part of Wigan and NOT as being its own place "near Wigan". Winstanley is no more than a housing estate and a shop. Hardly enough to be considered is its own town/village. The same goes for Ashcroft being from Up-Holland/Orrell but for some reason people from areas near Wigan can't accept the fact that the band are known famously as being from Wigan... but they ARE ! They met in Wigan, practiced in Wigan, started playing in Wigan, had singles with pics of Wigan on, made it famous as being a band from wigan and then did a homecoming gig in Wigan.
