Spelling of Name

[edit]

The usual spelling form for this individual is ALEMANNI.

The first name appears in older sources as Niccolò, in newer sometimes as Nicolò or Nicola.

The use of ALAMANNI for him occurs (both historically and today) particularly due to confusion with the more famous ALAMANNI family of Florence, specifically with a different Niccolò Alamanni of that family. But the ALAMANNI of Florence are also occasionally found as ALEMANNI.

So the Article should be titled "Niccolò Alemanni (Vatican Librarian)".

For search purposes, all the common name variants should ideally appear in the article -- Wikipedia articles are deficient in not having a "keywords" section specifically for this, burdening the prose:

  • Niccolò
  • Nicolò
  • Nicola
  • Nicholaos (Latin, Greek)
  • Alemanni
  • Alamanni
  • Alemannos (Greek)
