Hi, I In lived in the Lodge house of the Newton St. Loe Mansion during WW11 as a child. It was no rumour that the military occupied the big house. We would meet them in the grounds or walking on the long long drive. There was also a great deal of motorcycle dispatch traffic coming and going. My Mother told me that there were also some badly burned pilots staying there. Hope this adds to your info. Paddy St. Loe paddystl@telus.net in Canada.

Hi, I live in Newton St. Loe presently and as I understand it, the school continued until the 1970s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.109.110.100 (talk) 22:03, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inglescombe?

[edit]

The new Duchy or Cornwall section talks about a neighbouring Manor of Inglescombe. I'm pretty sure that this should be Englishcombe but can anyone confirm?— Rod talk 14:53, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This scanned 1848 book says "manors of Barew and Inglescombe or Englishcombe",[1] and the Englishcome village website suggests the Duchy owns property in that area,[2] so it looks the same. By google hit count neither version seems overwhelmingly popular, and both still seem in current use. I suggest following the Duchy source with Englishcombe in brackets - I'll do that, but change it if you prefer another way. NB Newton St Loe is exceptionally pretty to walk around on a sunny day if you pass that way! Rwendland (talk) 16:18, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

St Loe?

[edit]

So was there ever a St Loe? Deipnosophista (talk) 19:58, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Critisisms

[edit]

The section on critisisms has no references backing it up. Comes across as opinion rather than fact. Seems to be a commentary on small English villages rather than Newton St Loe specifically. EntropyJim (talk) 07:58, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It was added by an IP editor in August last year and had not been challenged. I have removed it - if anything along these lines is to be included it should be NPOV and supported by citations.— Rod talk 08:58, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
