Māori language name
[edit]What is the Māori language name of this team, and is it ever used? --MacRusgail (talk) 19:18, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- As far as I know they have always been just referred to as New Zealand Māori, with the exception of the 2000 RLWC where they played as Aotearoa Māori, as mentioned in the article. Mattlore (talk) 21:53, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for the info. Is "Aotearoa Māori" grammatically correct? --MacRusgail (talk) 15:57, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Flag
[edit]What's the basis for using the Tino rangatiratanga flag in the article? Is it really appropriate, or is this just a case of having a flag for decorative purposes? Does the NZRL ever use this flag in connection with the Māori rugby league team? Because I couldn't find anything on their website saying one way or another. I read quotes like "Kingi Taurua, from Waitangi's Te Tii Marae, said the flag was more representative of the Maori Party than Maori in general and would not be allowed to fly at his marae" [1] when discussing Tino rangatiratanga and just wonder whether editors are assuming this flag is appropriate, when in fact it may not be. This is just a query, so any information clearing this up would be appreciated. -- Shudde talk 07:28, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- Good question. Without any sources in front of me, I have a vague memory of the Aotearoa Māori side at the 2000 RLWC using it, but I'd have to check that. I see the its used in the 1980's Pacific Cup articles, despite being designed in 1990. Maybe we should follow the Māori All Blacks lead and just use the NZ flag.
