There is a New York State Democratic Party and a New York County Democratic Party, but there isn't any New York City Democratic Party. New York City is just a municipality with a City Council. The political breakup of New York City is because of the 1899 Consolidation. New York City and New York County where the same until 1899. The Kings County Democrats ran the municipalities of Brooklyn, Queens County Democrats, etc ....
