Merge from Rajarhat Gopalpur
[edit]- Support: Rajarhat Gopalpur is a municipality, so could be easily merged into this Rajarhat article. --Victor D PARLE 07:30, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Support - When the municipality was formed in 1994, it was named after the two villages which were located there - Rajarhat Gopalpur municipality (see this and this). Later the place was referred as Rajarhat New Town, and now mostly as New Town only.--GDibyendu (talk) 03:22, 25 November 2012 (UTC)--GDibyendu (talk) 09:13, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
Comment Google Maps calls it Newtown. [1] There is another Rajarhat south of Kolkata without a Wikipedia article. [2]. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 09:39, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Comment Not sure! The buses go to the area from Ajoynagar or Ruby Hospital say Rajarhat New Town. I don't know if those are two areas or single area with two names or the two names are used together. Another article Rajarhat New Town (Vidhan Sabha constituency) uses both the names together. Can you add any citation that the area is officially known as New Town? --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:40, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Even I am unsure about the title now. According to my understanding, the New Town planned area was carved out of the area known as Rajarhat, which were basically barren/cultivated land. After passing of the New Town Kolkata Development Authority Act, 2007 with retrospective operation, the areas mentioned in Scheduled I of the Act is known as New Town, Kolkata (Section 1(2)). [3] Most of the areas were under Rajarhat Police Station. There is no doubt that the current planned area is officially known as New Town, Kolkata. May be we can move the article to Rajarhat New Town (as that might pass WP:COMMONNAME) in case of a non-consensus as a middle path. The unplanned part of Rajarhat still continues to be legally known as Rajarhat. The municipality by the name Rajarhat-Gopalpur still exists, with no power within New Town area. How about spliting the article into two and create a separate article for Rajarhat (areas outside New Town)? Amartyabag TALK2ME 17:36, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Rajarhat Gopalpur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is different from the above one. These two consist of separate wards of the municipality. Earlier, there was a separate Rajarhat (SC) constituency, before delimitation of the constituencies. The area referred by Marcus Qwertyus is a smaller area on Diamond Harbour Road, and is located in a different district (South 24 Parganas). BTW, do you have a reference for this "Rajarhat Gopalpur Municipality area and New Town are different"? AFAIK, New Town is part of this municipality only, not sure about the exact wards. Will search.--GDibyendu (talk) 17:49, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Found one link (Tara TV is a local cable channel in West Bengal): http://www.taratv.com/top_story.php?task=full&newsid=3071. this says that New town is not under any municipality and a civic body may get formed if the relevant bill gets passed in state cabinet. So, lets have separate pages for Rajarhat (to list what all it means), Rajarhat New Town and Rajarhat Gopalpur Municipality. Already there are three other pages on 1) Rajarhat community development block, and the two bidhan sabha constituencies.--GDibyendu (talk) 17:59, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Almost the same above news reported by Times of India http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-08-13/kolkata/33181518_1_bidhannagar-municipality-property-tax-civic-amenities . Rajarhat should have a separate page may be we can fork out some content from the current article. The current article has been written from the aspect of the planned new town area. Moving the article to Rajarhat New Town would be an ideal solution as though this is not official but will pass WP:COMMONNAME and give a clear picture. A hatnote may be used to tell the difference. - See 1st section in this talk page. Rajarhat Gopalpur was merged to Rajarhat. I think this should be undone too.--GDibyendu (talk) 09:13, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
