neighbourhoods and ambiguity
[edit]@Mehedi Abedin. Here is a big one and im sorry im just confused.
In the neighborhood area, i have added many more neighborhoods. I added more areas generally considered upscale such as DOHSes and Cantonment. I also added Jolshiri which i believe is going to be considered upscale. However i have also added Banasree, Aftabnagar and Green Town, but is it appropriate and agreeable as they are not posh but still planned and in newer side of Dhaka which was probably agrarian area. Plus what about areas like Khillgaon which is known for its vast restaurants and stores and its most probably planned as well. Also what about areas like Mohammadpur, planned and full of amenities but not posh. Bailey Road, Eskaton and Ramna area is home to many secretaries and high ranking govt officials, Motijheel, the nations main CBD, Tejgaon, Agargaon, Sher e bangla nagar located close to posh areas and hosts significant government establishments. Segunbagicha home to many govt offices and BD secrateriat. Do we draw line between new and old dhaka right where old dhaka ends, do we consider certain areas like Paltan, Maghbazar Shahbagh, Ramna and Mohammadpur to act as the boundary of old and new dhaka, mixture of two, where we draw the line of old dhaka right were it ends like Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur for example, which touches old dhaka but can be considered new dhaka themself and then Bailey Road-Segunbagicha-Ramna-Mogbazar being new dhaka and area between them such as DU campus area and Gulistan being the buffer zone, And then also keep areas like Jatrabari out of both old dhaka and new dhaka. - @Uss157: Well, one of the sources states "From the very beginning, the city of Dhaka gradually expanded northwards from the banks of the Buriganga river. After partition, people from every part of the country started moving towards Dhaka. Over time, this city has expanded from south to north through Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Nikunj, Uttara to Tongi-Gazipur. The residential towns of Banani, Baridhara, Niketan, Nikunj, Uttara and Purbachal were developed in stages. Various institutions including schools, colleges, universities, medical colleges and specialized hospitals are gradually being developed considering the civic facilities of the residents here. We know this extended area as 'New Dhaka', and the residents of these areas are called 'New Dhaka Residents' by Dhakaiyars."
- In that sense that start of New Dhaka is from the place Old Dhaka end and New Dhaka should be extended towards north. We find the map of Old Dhaka in its article. We should list the areas based on that source. But New Dhaka should end before Tongi. That means New Dhaka would not go to Gazipur District. But I think we can accept Purbachal as New.
- Having boundary is great, but it should not be big. Paltan and Moghbazar are considered as the regions of Old Dhaka in several writings.
- But one of the best way is to see how railway line was built on the city. In that time (1960s) the line was realigned to move the line from the old Dhaka. That means the line is on the between Old and New Dhaka. Mehedi Abedin 19:44, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
