Break it down
[edit]It might be good to split this into sections explaining each section of the process, and describe what happens to the neurons after each one. I know this is kind of how it is now, but it is a little impenetrable.
A schematic would be nice :)

Stop, Fourier time
[edit]So, is Fourier time just the reciprocal of the highest frequency for which there is sufficient resolution? Perhaps an average frequency of some kind?
