Repackage Singles

[edit]

Since this has been contested on many K-Pop album wiki pages, we should discuss whether K-Pop Repackaged albums are the same as reissues as they relate to Template:Infobox album#Template:Singles. The guide states that Singles should be omitted from Infobox Album if they're Bonus Tracks as part of a reissued album. However, I would argue that K-Pop album repackages aren't reissues, but rather a new album that includes all the tracks from the original. Under that framework, singles from repackaged K-Pop albums should be included in Infobox Album. 41matt14 (talk) 19:35, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox album#Details makes it clear – only details about the original album should be included in infoboxes:
  • released: "Only the earliest known date that the album was released should be specified; later release dates (incl. re-issues) can be mentioned in a Release history section."
  • length: "Usually, only the length of the original album release should be entered. The timing of reissues or other releases, such as with bonus tracks, should be added to a "Releases" or similar section in the main body of the article, if noteworthy."
  • label: "Only the record label that the album was originally released on should be specified. Where significantly different versions have been released (featuring alternative track listings) e.g. in the US vs UK, the later release date or record label should be mentioned in the article, for example in a Release history section."
  • Template:Singles: 2. "Do not include singles that were added as bonus tracks on a re-release of an album."
Additionally, listing singles in an album infobox is limited to those that "were released as singles during the marketing and promotion of the album". The single in question, "PushPunch", was not included on the original release of the Neo Zone album, therefore, it does not meet the criterion. To include it in the infobox which focuses on Neo Zone gives the false impression that the single is from that album. Also, personal commentary regarding editing should not be added to WP articles – that's what the talk page is for. Please revert.[1]

Template:Singles: 2. "Do not include singles that were added as bonus tracks on a re-release of an album." I'm arguing that a repackaged album is different from an album re-release. K-Pop albums often are released with 4 or more versions, but we only list the one because those are different versions of the same album. K-Pop album repackages shouldn't be treated the same way as album re-releases.
Additionally, listing singles in an album infobox is limited to those that "were released as singles during the marketing and promotion of the album". The single in question, "Push"(sic), was not included on the original release of the Neo Zone album, therefore, it does not meet the criterion. K-Pop album repackages often if not always have their own, separate marketing and promotion. The single, "Punch", wasn't included in the promotion of the Neo Zone album. It had its own promotional period because it is a single off Neo Zone : The Final Round. Template:Infobox album#Details does not make it sufficiently clear that a repackaged – not re-released, but repackaged – album with its own single and b-side tracks shouldn't have its singles in the Infobox album.
To include it in the infobox which focuses on Neo Zone gives the false impression that the single is from that album. There is no false impression as the Track Listing will not list the single from the album repackage in the original album's listing, only in the repackage's.

Maybe open an RfC at Template talk:Infobox album, since it turns that template's guidance. —Ojorojo (talk) 21:33, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
