This link was added to the article after discussion on the WP Reliable Sources Noticeboard. See: WP:RSN exercise. No information from the CCHT link has been put into the body of the article in the form of citations because it has not yet been verified for 100% accuracy by the Victoria County History project for Cumbria. (This will take some years to do). Laplacemat (talk) 10:55, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cumbria?

[edit]

Common sense, something which is not very common, would put this village in Northumberland. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.25.94.142 (talk) 19:04, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Although Nenthead has the characteristics of a County Durham or Northumberland village, for administrative purposes it is part of Cumbria, and Cumberland before that. --Devokewater 15:17, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Altitude

[edit]

If it's 1500 feet exactly, then Flash, Staffordshire beats it as England's highest village. All I can find on Nenthead is this Visitcumbria page that makes the "England's highest village" claim... but given Flash's verified exact height, that isn't good enough. Hence the {{fact}} tag. The Altitude of various building are recorded by the Ordnance survey. There are four of their "Benchmarks" still in place in Nenthead. There heights given by OS are (in ascending order) as follows 435.294m, 437.013m, 452.759m and 473.705m. See https://www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm152414
The problem with visitors' guides is that they are often/mostly (?) undated, and could've taken some of their content from existing Wikipedia content. Using the heights supplied together with Wikipedia's standard convert gives a range of 435.3 m (1,428 ft) to 473.7 m (1,554 ft), which is greater than the guide's 1500 ft. This makes it subjective as to what part and extent is considered when making the claim.
This edit from 2013 shows how the prose was changed to assert 1582 feet - appears to be subjective interpretation of map data, which breaches WP:SYNTH. It's still being done, see this appeal for help in abstracting map detail. THE highest, THE fastest, The first... all gets a bit tedious, and IMO is one of WP's downfalls.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 16:33, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Flag

[edit]

Is the flag officially recognised? if not it should be removed. Regards --Devokewater 15:13, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
