Foetal?

[edit]

The article describes burials in which the deceased was buried in the "foetal" position. My dictionary says that "foetus" is a variant spelling of fetus (chiefly in British nontechnical use). Shouldn't this be replaced with the more mainstream and technical spelling "fetal"? Senor Cuete (talk) 21:02, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Senor Cuete[reply]

Occupation of South Africa from 15-11.5 thousand years ago

[edit]

Deleted a sentence that suggested past peoples did not occupy Lesotho or South Africa from 15-11.5 thousand years ago. There is evidence to suggest occupations throughout South Africa during this period of time. Also, this sentence did not have to do with the Agulhas Plain, which is not inland South Africa or in Lesotho. RobbyGreg (talk) 19:28, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bulk editing

[edit]

I have updated the Nelson Bay Cave Wikipedia page as part of a WikiEducation class assignment for African Prehistory offered at New York University by Dr Justin Pargeter. Information added includes the archaeological and paleoenvironmental histories of the cave. I also added information about the significance of the cave and its heritage status. Building from the current Wikipedia page, I first sectioned the page to create an easy reading experience. The main headings added include:

  • Geological history.
  • Archaeological history includes excavation history, dating and stratigraphy, archaeological finds, and zooarchaeology (animal remains) as subheadings.
  • Paleoenvironmental history.
  • Significance of the cave.
  • Heritage status.

The lead section was updated to add a few more sentences from the original and cite more recent sources. The geological background and following sections were also updated with more information not present in the original page, citing relevant sources while doing this. I also added images of the outside of the cave, the inside structure built to preserve the section wall of the cave, and the outside area of the Robberg Peninsula, following Wikipedia’s image guidelines and copyright restrictions.
