Original coinage? In some way inspired by title of an earlier work?

[edit] Presumably HPL was inspired by an earlier term, likely another titled work; perhaps simply the so-called "Egyptian book of the dead". (Sorry, i know nothing even of Coptic, let alone ... never mind; my primary audience have no need for explicit hints, and the even more hearty souls who bother to read this may just enjoy explicating my cryptic reference.) Is it possible that the seemingly quirky title was simply dreamt up, kinda ex nihilo, by the quirky fabulist? Or is there a truly ancient or medieval precedent?
