Manx nationalism

[edit]

Just wondering if there should be mention of Mec Vannin for Manx nationalism at all? ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 21:37, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. I'm torn on that one. Of course Mann isn't part of the United Kingdom, but is in federacy with it. What's your take? --Jza84 |  Talk  21:47, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm unsure. However, the following from the Crown Dependency article about the Isle of Man and Channel Islands might point toward it being valid to include Manx nationalism but in the third section along maybe with Cornwall??
  • "These Crown dependencies, together with the United Kingdom, are collectively known as the British Islands. They are treated as part of the United Kingdom for British nationality law purposes."
So maybe it is relevant to put them in?♦Tangerines♦·Talk 21:52, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

British Nationalism

[edit]

Why does the article for British nationalism keep disappearing? It's a significantly larger movement than English nationalism, so-called 'Britishness' (Which is nationalism watered down by Gordon Brown to the extent that most of the patriotism has been surgically removed and replaced with his own brand of happy-clappy multi-cult) which hasn't been accepted by the British people has an article so why doesn't the British nationalist movement have one (The seperatist traitors all have their own articles)-User:TashkentFox 04:06 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Well the trouble is this sort of thing is covered in several sections. We have Britishness for the civilized people proud to be British. We have British unionism more to do with keeping the United Kingdom a single country and defeating the separatists. Then we have Far right in the United Kingdom to deal with the right wing nationalists like the BNP. This arrangement isnt perfect but its better than unsourced and inaccurate content as there was previously before a recent change. Part of it before read..
"but some left-of-centre figures, including Prime Minister Gordon Brown, have sought to promote British nationalism as a progressive cause" - I do not like the wording of that at all. Theres a huge difference between nationalism and patriotism or British unionism. I think its better that people get to choose the correct article they are looking for, although there may be some justification for changing "far right in the United Kingdom" to "Far right British Nationalism" or something along those lines. We also have a huge problem with the Scottish articles at the moment. Currently there are two articles, one on Scottish independence(awfully written and biased) and one on Scottish national identity. At the moment "Scottish nationalism" simply redirects to Scottish independence which is totally incorrect. There needs to be a separate article on "Scottish nationalism" that ofcourse mentions support for independence, but it shouldnt be a redirect.
Wales has a good set up in my opinion. Theres Welsh nationalism and Welsh independence. If Wales needs its own article on independence, then Scotland certainly does. BritishWatcher (talk) 18:27, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I read somewhere that unified "British nationalism" gains momentum during periods of war (Napoleonic, WW1, WW2, Falklands), and loses strength during periods of peace. I'll try and track that down. --Jza84 |  Talk  12:19, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's characteristic of some forms of British Nationalism, particularly on the left and centre, to pretend it isn't actually nationalism at all. Therefore, British Nationalists of this type will not allow an article on British Nationalism, even though it is still the most common form of nationalism in the UK. 86.132.224.105 (talk) 13:50, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
