[edit]Interesting to note that he shares the name "Gregor Mendel" with the Austrian priest who pioneered studies into genetics. [1] --Delerzhus (talk) 14:09, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
What do the consequences of Maggiore's lack of treatment for his formerly ailing daughter have to do with Mendel? I understand that he contributed to his charity, but the death of the founder's duaghter has no business on a page about The Foo Fighters' bassist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.29.51.146 (talk) 16:53, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
This seems to show that the HIV/AIDS denialism is still a supported cause, but it's not in the other link on the website. Don't know why. http://www.foofighters.com/community_cause.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.240.127.125 (talk) 20:21, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

A grave lack of neutrality in the "Personal Life" Section
[edit]Hello there. I'm Matt. I'm from Portland, OR and I'm new to the Wiki editing community.
I noticed today that a sub-section in the "Personal Life" section on this page severely lacks neutrality. The sub-section is entitled "Connection to AIDS Denialist movement" and is littered with editorial bias, mis-claims and unrelated claims. The language seems aimed at defaming and discrediting Mr. Mendel rather than reporting the facts surrounding his controversial public support for an organization called Alive & Well.
The sub-section is not compliant with Wikipedia's [Point Of View] policy which states: "All encyclopedic content on Wikipedia must be written from a neutral point of view (NPOV), which means representing fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias, all of the significant views that have been published by reliable sources on a topic."
'Noncompliance #1: The term "AIDS Denialist movement" is biased by design and does not reflect an accurate description of the global community calling for a reappraisal of HIV. The correct term to refer to those who do not subscribe to orthodox beliefs about HIV is "AIDS Dissident" and is the most accurate term for this specific situation. I would like to offer a respectful, accurate subheading title of "Public Support for the AIDS Dissident Movement."
Noncompliance #2: The very first sentence of the sub-section makes a false claim about the Alive & Well organization, and fails to lend its official 501(c)(3) governmental status. The sentence currently reads: "In January 2000, Nate Mendel organized a sold-out concert in Los Angeles to benefit Alive & Well AIDS Alternatives, a group which denies that HIV is the cause of AIDS."
I propose the following sentence which accurately describes the organization using their own words found at www.aliveandwell.org:
"In January 2000, Nate Mendel organized a sold-out concert in Los Angeles to benefit Alive & Well AIDS Alternatives, a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded to "support, education and health advocacy network founded in 1995 by a group of HIV positive diagnosed men and women." (cited from: http://www.aliveandwell.org) According to the organization's website, their primary goal is to "present information that raises questions about the accuracy of HIV tests, the safety and effectiveness of AIDS drug treatments, and the validity of most common assumptions about HIV and AIDS."
Addition of MTV News Article Proposal: I propose the addition of a reputable news source regarding the event in question which would read: "In April 2000, MTV News reported that "The Foo Fighters are the first high-profile entertainers to endorse the organization."[2]
Untrue Statement: The second sentence of the sub-section makes a claim that the organization's founder, Christine Maggiore, gave a speech at the concert. That much is true. But here on Wikipedia, her speech is paraphrased in a way aimed at discrediting her. Furthermore, we are to believe the sentence is true from a reference to an article in "Mother Jones" Magazine. When you follow the reference, the article contains zero quotes from Ms. Maggiore's speech. Instead, we find some biased generalizations about Ms. Maggiore's personal beliefs without any direct references. I propose the sentence be stricken from the article since the reference fails to substantiate its claim.
Neutrality proposal: The third sentence of the sub-section quotes Mr. Mendel accurately, but fails to mention an important fact-- the article in question is actually a "Letter To The Editor" in which Mr. Mendel expresses his deep concern about being MISREPRESENTED by the magazine itself. This calls into question the journalistic integrity of the magazine itself. In an effort to maintain neutrality and paint a more accurate picture of the situation, I propose an additional quote from the very same article which reads: "I am not a medical professional, and I am relatively new to these questions, but I am convinced that those who have tested HIV positive and those sick with AIDS are being done a disservice by not having all the information available to them." [3]
Thank you for taking the time to help restore some neutrality to this page. If anyone knowns how I should move forward to implement these changes, please let me know. I made them once, and all of my revisions were reverted. I have more to learn about how this process works =)
Many thanks MattWikiLoverInPortland (talk) 05:54, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
