The Most Revered Band of Morocco

[edit]

And they can't get an article larger than an enemy of Iron Man. McWiki, pleased to meet ya.

Someone can mention that their music was used by Scorsese while developing "Passion of the Christ" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.249.111.250 (talk) 05:09, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Useable?

A concert film unlike any other, Trances presents extraordinary footage of the “mighty Moroccan band”(Sasha Frere-Jones) Nass El Ghiwane, known as the Rolling Stones of Africa, whose legendary performances combined music, poetry, and theater. “Nass El Ghiwane was singing their nation, their people—their beliefs, their sufferings, their prayers.”—Martin Scorsese. “We eavesdrop on the group, whose troubadour style has won them a large and rapturous following in their home country of Morocco. The debt owed to the musical traditions of their faith and land is freely acknowledged, and vividly brought to mind by the trance-like state their compelling, percussive music induces in their fans.” —Frances Dickinson, Time Out London —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.249.111.250 (talk) 05:33, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I suspect a copyright violation here, but I can't prove it, I have googled for the text, but came with nothing --Khalid hassani 15:11, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sound file and comments

[edit]

There is a mention in the Instruments' section that says: "Listen to the intro to Haoulouni (Lotfia) to know what I mean!". I believe this should be replaced with a link to a midi file of the song's introduction only. The comment, as it is now, is more for the talk page than the article page itself. Also I suggest that the last sentence be rephrased. We all wish well to Abderrahmane Paco but again, this should be replaced with something more article-like. We could keep the part that mentions his illness just develop on it and the overall impact it may have on the group. What do you think? --Angelikmeg 18:55, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article issues

[edit]

I thought this article really needed some NPOV cleanup but I think {{Fansite}} more accurately describes the article. Note that Amazon has used POV text from a version of this article in one of its product descriptions ([http://www.amazon.com/Best-Nass-el-Ghiwane/dp/B000NOKA76/]). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:29, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is less of an issue following the removal of copyvio content. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:35, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

This edit appears to have been a copy paste from http://www.public.iastate.edu/~abimad/nasselghiwane.html and as such a clear copyright violation. Nearly all edits since that edit have been deritative works and so also copyright violations. This edit and this one don't appear to be copyright violations although that are based on (copied from?) the pre copyrigth problem version. I have removed all the infringing text and just left the text added in these two edits plus a very basic lead. This edit also appears to be OK but as it is unreferenced and I'm not sure it's appropiate for the article I have made an editorial decision to leave it out. Thanks, I'm curious how you managed to find that. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:34, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The introduction of that amount of text obviously raises red flags so I was looking back through the contribution history to see if anything could be saved if indeed it was a copyvio. http://www.public.iastate.edu/~abimad/nasselghiwane.html had been given as an external link in some of those versions so it was then relatively easy to throw it into the wayback machine and compare the versions. Dpmuk (talk) 17:43, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't think of that in this case, checking the external links. Usually when I suspect a cut-and-paste, I copy one of the sentences and paste it into Google. Usually this works for me. Thanks again. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:56, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
