"cognates"

[edit]

Since Foley 2018 says all we know about these languages are the few vocab lists he summarizes, how could he possibly have established the sound correspondences to demonstrate that the following are cognates?

'eat'	sa	dimisipe
'eye'	lɪle	yei
'moon'	pei	min-yaku
'stone'	sou	kəlo
'sun'	nəmane	yaku
'water'	nomu	basu
'1pl'	mani	ngu
'2pl'	yuka	dule

Or is the word 'cognates' in the heading of Foley Table 30 just an error? — kwami (talk) 00:28, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm deleting the section. This is an obvious typo -- the other tables are all listed as 'common vocab', and in the text he also describes this table as 'common vocab', which has no business being in a family article, not just per DICT but because lists of vocab are off topic. — kwami (talk) 04:23, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for noticing this. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 10:48, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
But don't completely delete sections. That's removing useful content. Move them elsewhere. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 12:10, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
