Nagari (disambiguation)Nagari – per WP:MALPLACED, to move the (disambiguation) to title, where the title Nagari is pointing to another disambig page. Vin09 (talk) 07:00, 10 December 2015 (UTC) --Relisted. George Ho (talk) 04:07, 18 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: as things are at present the redirect from Nagari is to Devanagari (which is not a disambiguation page and shows no signs in recent history of having been one, or the page having been moved), and has been so for all but 3 days since it was created in June 2015. To move the dab page would require an earlier decision that "Devanagari" is not the Primary Topic for "Nagari", which would be a "Redirects for Discussion". The dab at Nagari (disambiguation) is not malplaced, and the nomination is misleading. PamD 09:57, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@PamD:It was redirected on THIS basis. Nagari doesn't mean devnagari. Devanagari is a script.--Vin09 (talk) 09:59, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Anthony Appleyard: - probably on your watchlist as you were involved in June, but just in case. @Vin09: Note that pinging only works if you get the name right! I'm not an expert in this field, but do a lot of dab page work and stand by my statement above. I'll leave the content battles to experts, but you can't, at present, call this a malplaced dab page and claim that it redirects to a dab page, because it isn't and doesn't. Your diff shows an undoing of an edit of yours which would have made a malplaced dab page. There's obviously a lot of background. Just to comment: it's not relevant that "Devanagari is a script": what matters is what most readers will be looking for when they search for "Nagari". If most of them will be looking for the script called Devanagari, also known as Nagari, then that script is the Primary Topic. PamD 10:08, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@PamD: Sorry for false username, corrected it. As far as I know Nagari is a settlement. Its upto admins on what they decide is right. Cheers!--Vin09 (talk) 10:13, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nagari (disambiguation)NagariNagari is currently a redirect to Devanagari, and even though that script is indeed sometimes called "Nagari", the term more commonly refers to other scripts (particularly the ancient Nāgarī script, but also some of its modern descendants like Sylheti Nagari). There are several other major meanings listed on the dab page, so it's pretty clear there is no primary topic here. – Uanfala (talk) 00:33, 26 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation page

[edit]

Hello @Uanfala:. One way of looking at this page is as a miscategorised disambiguation page. I notice that in the past the disambiguation category has been removed from this page to stop erroneous fixing of incoming links. Is it possible, do you think, for the entries on this page that create such "troublesome" links to be separated out to a page at the base name, with other unrelated entries (e.g. the places, the car) moved to a disambiguation page, over the current redirect Nagari (disambiguation)? Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:09, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not keen on creating such an artificial separation into two separate pages (artificial because there's not primary topic and not scope for a broad-concept article), and at the very least this will be inconveniencing to confusing for readers. I'm willing to live with the miscategorisation – it might be far from the perfect, but it has virtually no effect on the reader experience. My plan was for it to be temporary though, for as long as needed to fix the incoming links (there's about a dozen of these that are difficult and that I'll probably need to get help with). – Uanfala (talk) 13:27, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
