Spelling of name

[edit]

Not only did the reference that brough me here use the spelling "Nachman", so do all this article's references (at least that are working links). If there are no strong reasons for the current title, I'll request a move. Smartiger (talk) 19:00, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Replying to this old discussion because an editor seems to be pushing a certain edit (that incidentally ruins some formatting) without discussing first: both transliterations seem to be about equally common, with Nachman Shai being slightly more common (especially in the media). On the other hand, WP:HE applies when we don't have a clear WP:COMMONNAME, which is for Nahman Shai (or Shay). Any of them is fine with me as long as there are more editors who provide input to this discussion. —Ynhockey (Talk) 13:19, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Today, there has been a complaint at WP:HD as follows:

I am MK Nachman Shay's personnal assistant I would really appreciate it if you could be a little more professional and take my input seriously.
I am appalled by your reply claiming my helpfull update to Wikipedia to be an act of vandalism. I look forward to you changing it.
Respectfully,

I am not particularly familiar with WP:HE, but it seems to me that "Official transliterations into English used by primary soures only should [...] take precedence in naming articles". Since the official web page http://www.knesset.gov.il/mk/eng/mk_eng.asp?mk_individual_id_t=818 spells the name as "Nachman Shai", it seems to me that the article should indeed better be renamed. — Sebastian 22:14, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I presume the "vandalism" referred to this edit, blanking the whole page. — Sebastian 22:24, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I received mail from Dr. Nachman Shai, M.K., and since this is the way he prefers to be transliterated, I will do the change. — Sebastian 06:21, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
