This award is not meant to be considered a Most Valuable Player award...

Good question! I've wondered that myself, but for some reason the NCAA wants to be weird and call it an "MOP" (how nice, name the guy who is fulfilling many a dream of young b-ball players everywhere after janitorial equipment :P).
