Comeback Player of the Year Award
[edit]In the 1980s the NBA used to award something called the Comeback Player of the Year Award which was sort of a precursor to the Most Improved Player Award and was usually given to players who had been injured or sat out for a season due to other reasons (sometimes drugs) and came back to have a great season or to reinvent their career. The last season it was given was also the first season the Most Improved Player Award was given out (though to different players). I'm thinking that since this was an official NBA Award and the IBM Award really wasn't (though we have a separate page for it), maybe we should make a page for Comeback Player of the Year Award or at least add it as a sub-section under Most Improved Player Award.
Here's the link per Basketball-Reference

- @Coulraphobic123: NBA Comeback Player of the Year Award finally created. I ran across it at John Drew (basketball), where it incorrectly said he won the comeback award and incorrectly piped it from NBA Most Improved Player Award.[1] Then I see a recent obit that probably lifted it from Wikipedia, incorrectly saying he won the award also.[2] The power of WP:OR: Drew winning it was added way back in 2007,[3] and the Comeback Player of the Year Award dab has incorrectly said it was renamed to the MIP since 2011.[4]—Bagumba (talk) 09:42, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
