Old road sign
[edit]The sign in this photo is from the 1960s or maybe even the 1950s. (Someone who knows about these things might have more info). The arrow through it indicates that the alignment of the road (and possibly location of the sign) were changed, perhaps 20 years ago - it appears to have been touched-up and repaired - probably after the road realignment.
There was virtually no expenditure on direction signs in the 1970s or 1980s, when this short stretch of road, (4km north of Templemore) was probably realigned.
The symbol on the bottom right-hand corner of the sign is an old logo of the Irish Tourist Board (Bord Fáilte); who were responsible for most of these non-fingerpost signs on Irish roads before the 1970s.
This is the Irish equivilant to a "pre-Warboys" road sign, dating from before our adopting adapted versions of the UK's Warboys Committee directional signage. I think it would be a good addition to the Road signs in the Republic of Ireland page under old road signs and will add it to that. --Rdd 13:07, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
