The cast of the television series MythBusters perform experiments to verify or debunk urban legends, old wives' tales, and the like. This is a list of the various myths tested on the show as well as the results of the experiments (the myth is Busted, Plausible, or Confirmed).

Need for Speed

[edit]
Myth statement Status Notes
Is Keanu Reeves' iconic motoring movie Speed just fake film physics? When a bus is moving at over 50 miles per hour, will the bus flip unless the passengers move to the inside of the turn? Busted With barrels filled with water simulating the passengers, Adam and Jamie verified by driving the bus themselves that the bus will not flip no matter the passengers move to the inside of the turn or are evenly distributed in the bus. They eventually made the bus tip after they shifted all barrels to the outside of the turn, added 4000 pounds of steel sheets to the roof of the bus and dropped the bus in the outside of the turn using an air valve.

Hollywood Crash Tests

[edit]

Can you get out unharmed and continue your high speed pursuit on your car after…

Myth statement Status Notes
…a fruit stand drive through? Busted The car suffered serious damages in the front from the collision with the fruit stand and was rendered trashed.
…a chain link gate crash? Plausible The car was able to rush through the gate. Despite the bumper was bent, airbags were deployed, and the horn would not stop blaring, Grant verified that the car was still drivable.
…a caravan collision? Busted The car smashed into the chassis of the caravan, destroying both the caravan and itself.
…a semi trailer shave? Plausible The trailer shaved the roof of the car clean off, resulting in an "instant convertible". Due to a breaking system failure, the car was unable to stop and flew out of the test range after hitting a ramp. Kari, Grant and Tory declared the myth "Plausible" after evaluating the wreckage of the car.
