@Xwejnusgozo: although there seems to be a decent number of sources that spell cisse's name as "lassane", it appears, at least to me, that at this time, an overwhelming majority of sources spell his name as "lassana" instead.[a] although this fact is by no means dispositive regarding how his name should be spelt here, is there a reason why you specifically chose to use the former in the article title? i don't know if you also have some additional insight that i am currently unaware of, such as having personally known him or know people who have, as i am aware that you are from malta. dying (talk) 02:11, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I was also unsure whether or not to include "Souleymane" in the title. I decided not to because a number of media sources omit this in their articles covering the murder. However I have no problem with including it if it is deemed to be a necessary part of the title.
@Xwejnusgozo: wow, thanks for taking the time to do all that research! i must admit, when i was first expanding your entry for valletta on the international george floyd protests page, i had only checked the source you had provided for the spelling (which used "lassana"), and then searched for sources in both names just as a sanity check. seeing that you had switched it back, i wanted to figure out what i had been missing. had i stumbled upon the usage of "lassane" in the ministerial statement, that probably would have convinced me to use the "lassane" spelling for the article title as well.[b]
anyway, i agree with your decisions, including the omission of "souleymane" from the article title (but including it in the article text itself) for the same reason that you mentioned. thanks for addressing my question so extensively. i will make a couple of clerical edits to conform to the change. dying (talk) 08:35, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Notes
^actually, one of the sources you had listed in the article inconsistently uses both spellings.
^interestingly, i just noticed that the url of that page uses the spelling "lassana", so the ministerial statement itself is inconsistent with the spelling of his name.
