The only thing this Court is notable for are the events related to the Nauvoo Expositor and the death of Joseph Smith. If this was a person it would be a wp:1E, and the article as written doesn't support any notability separate from those other two articles, and could be completely covered by them. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 16:15, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's less than a week old-- give it time to grow.
It was an important historical judicial body. It handled lots of different cases over five year, not just one. Indeed, confusion and about its creation and its composition led to friction between the saints and their neighbors.
Give it time-- it'll grow. --HectorMoffet (talk) 22:26, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

I propose merging Municipal Court of Nauvoo and Nauvoo City Council into a single article about the Nauvoo Charter. Included would be a section on the Nauvoo Legion as well. All three of these entities were created at the same time, and have intertwining stories. Neither article is that long, and I'm frankly really surprised there isn't an article already about the Nauvoo Charter, given the amount of literature specifically on the Charter. Consolidating these shorter articles under the Nauvoo Charter makes sense, and would provide a cohesive framework for each institution created by the charter. Another page that could be brought under this umbrella is the Nauvoo University. A Nauvoo Charter page that covers the court, council, and legion would also make it clearer how much political sway and political immunity the charter gave to Nauvoo. It's a good demonstration of a pre-Civil War American city-state experiment. AIJFMM (talk) 19:44, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we just merge both into History of Nauvoo, Illinois? I don't think a stand alone article is due. If you want to seperatly create an article for the charter thats fine, but I don't see the logic in merging two other related but not entirely overlapping topics to a new place. I think the stand alone article for The Nauvoo Charter would show the relation between all the institutions. The Nauvoo Charter granted the city to create: 1) the Nauvoo City Council, 2) a municipal court system, 3) the Nauvoo Legion, and 4) the Nauvoo University.
The logic in consolidating would be that Municipal Court of Nauvoo and Nauvoo City Council articles are so short, and their creation, history, and downfall are directly related to the establishment and revocation of the Nauvoo Charter. AIJFMM (talk) 19:45, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
