There is a mistake in this article. It says that Muir Russell was "succeeded" by Professor Muscatelli but the link takes you to a page which says that he is Principal of Heriot Watt university, a different institution. I have not changed it since I do not know what the correct situation is.

  • Muir Russell is standing down as principal of Glasgow University in September 2009 and will be succeeded by Professor Muscatelli. Perhaps I was a bit hasty in putting in his replacement :). -- Raj (talk) 23:50, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CRU stuff

[edit]

I think the description: "In Dec 2009 he was tapped to head an independent investigation into allegations that the causes of climate change were exaggerated by The Climatic Research Unit (CRU) based out of the University of East Anglia (UEA)." is misleading or inappropriate.

It is not my understanding that Phil Jones "exaggerated" the data but something far worse, as any internet user may imagine he understands from the various blogs. Perhaps it would be better to quote the terms of reference for the investigation rather than encourage a debate about whether it is exaggeration or something quite different.

In the interim perhaps the proper approach would be a neutral statement that "the independent investigations into various allegations that are directed at the CRU in general and some named scientists in particular."

Using the expression as published is might suggestive that the issue is being distorted by downplaying its possible significance globally and seriousness to Professor Jones whose future career may well be dependent on the outcome.

A bit late now. The inquiry has reported William M. Connolley (talk) 17:44, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I removed:

Russell is listed as a member of an advisory board of Scottishpower [1], a firm that is heavily invested in renewable technologies and thus stands to potentially profit from public concern over global warming.

That is clear SYN/smear William M. Connolley (talk) 17:44, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
