Could it be argued that this song is heavy metal rather than pure hard rock? It seems to have a slightly "darker" feel than numbers such as "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "Nightrain"... at least to my ears...

They forgot to mention why this song was written. Before Axl and Izzy joined Axl's girlfriend (the same one mentioned in Sweet Child O' Mine) didn't like him doing herion so he quit. So Izzy wrote this song about Axl.

The fact that Axl quit is supported by the lyrics

But that old man he's a real muthafucker
Gonna kick him on down the line

The statement above doesn't make any sense.. I reckon Mr Brownstone's the muthafucker for getting them hooked, and they'll stick it to him, "down the line" when they clean up their acts.. That's my 0.05 AUD worth.

It makes sense when considering the term Brownstone as slang for heroin. 68.175.118.95 09:51, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cho Seung-Hui

[edit]

Please do not delete references to Cho in this article. If it is kept as brief as it currently is, it is relevant. Please refer to Catcher in the Rye, John Hinckley, Jr. and Mark David Chapman for precedent examples. President David Palmer 08:12, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, whoever it is that's hidden underneath that IP address, you need to read the talk page before you just delete whatever you don't like. There is precedent for this, so don't ignore it for the sake of your personal reasons. It stays because precedent says it stays. At least justify yourself before you delete something. It's not "recentism" in the least. President David Palmer 22:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seung-hui Cho making a play with that name has no relevance to the song.
Sign your comments, and read a couple Wikipedia entries before you push this point so stubbornly. Precedent clearly favors it staying. President David Palmer 11:03, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

to be honest no one really cares about one play that was a school assignment, just because a serial killer wrote it makes no difference, i dont think many people will care what that guy wrote about — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.20.201.105 (talk) 22:56, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Axl's Hometown

[edit]

Axl Rose grew up in Lafayette, IN near Purdue University. One of the apartment complexes was called Brownstone Apartments. It is rumored this is where Axl used to buy drugs, and that's another reason for the song title. Is there anyone else who's heard that before? possible second meaning

[edit]

the song could possibly also be about them paying there rent. mr brownstone being there landlord, and the whole song is them running from him cause they don't have rent... which makes since, since in those days a lot of people paid their rent in hollywood by selling heroine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.118.0.138 (talk) 15:44, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
