RfC[edit]

There is a clear consensus to redirect Mount San Jacinto to San Jacinto Peak.

Should the current disambiguation page 'Mount San Jacinto' be repurposed into a redirect to 'San Jacinto Peak'? Cesdeva (talk) 21:41, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

'San Jacinto Peak' overwhelmingly occupies current Google search results for 'Mount San Jacinto', perhaps demonstrating that it is primary topic. The same Google search also brings up much travel literature that uses the two names interchangeably.

A college bears San Jacinto Peak as it's namesake (Mount San Jacinto College), as does the state park surrounding the mountain (Mount San Jacinto State Park). I note some link piping is used in the latter article because of this disambiguation pages' existence.

Mount Edgecumbe appears to have been briefly known in the late 18th Century as 'Montaña de San Jacinto' until Captain Cook named it otherwise.

I'm not sure of the likelyhood that someone in 2019 searching for Mount Edgecumbe would type in Mount San Jacinto. Compare that with someone searching for San Jacinto Peak, and it's questionable whether astonishing readers with a disambiguation page is worth it. Cesdeva (talk) 21:41, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I apologise: I boldly redirected this page and added a hatnote to the target before I read this talk page RfC (I pre-loaded a lot of tabs in my browser from the article alerts list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation and didn't realise this was an RfC). Clearly I agree that a redirect is better: anyone who disagrees is welcome to undo my action. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:32, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Support conversion to redir, per WP:ONEOTHER and a very clear primary topic. —hike395 (talk) 17:40, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
