Mt Chirripo is situated right next to San Gerardo de Rivas - a small village with a traditional agricultural base, that has become a hub for Chirripo hikers and climbers. But the village has all sorts of other delights including Cloudbridge Reserve with its many waterfalls (www.cloudbridge.org),the agua termales (hot springs) and opportunities to view rare orchids, exquisite birds including rare quetzals and cloud forest. The village also hosts the annual Chirripo Race - an 11km run up Mt Chirripo that brings athletes from around the world to attend. See [1]www.sangerardocostarica.com

That s not true that snow happens from time to time. What it happens is GRAUPELN or SMALL HAIL never snow. Snow was common in XIX century and disappear after 1890. There is only a single case ,in 1974 which is regarded as IMN as possible real snow. Please correct.

Change of name to Mount Chirripó

[edit]

Hello Chirripó fans. I was brave and changed the name of the article from Cerro Chirripó to Mount Chirripó because, to my way of thinking, "cerro" is not a word in English and it has a perfectly good English translation: mount. However, I opted to keep the tilde on the last vowel because I know without it, English speakers will have no guidance on how to pronounce the word, and I like to keep pronunciation consistent as much as possible between Spanish and English. If I have caused problems or confusion, please remember that was not my intention, and kindly let me know how I can make such a name change in a better way in the future.
