Instruments section suggestions

[edit]

Digital vs analog displays and the role of CAN deserve mention in the Instruments section. Also, I suggest breaking out discussion of petcocks & fueling into its own section. -- Brianhe (talk) 05:40, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I liked the 'dashboard' addition. Not so sure about "at a minimum"; plenty of road bikes, high end and low end, are missing a tach. tedder (talk) 05:44, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, I'd forgotten that cruisers frequently don't have a tach. Don't virtually all sportbikes have one though? Brianhe (talk) 15:04, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sportbikes, yes, but don't forget the US market is WAY different than the international market. I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of bikes from Bajaj don't have tachs, for instance. tedder (talk) 15:17, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chain drive, belt drive and shaft drive

[edit]

Deleted uncited statement concerning these three final drive systems. My understanding is that chain drive is not more efficient than belt, but actually can withstand higher torque/power. And not more resistant than shaft drive to debris, but actually less so (at least for a non-enclosed chain). This should probably be hashed out at Chain drive#Chains versus belts first, then incorporated here. — Brianhe (talk) 03:45, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Kevin Cameron has a column in Cycle World that explains that enclosed chains are impractical for anything but very low power bikes because the chain overheats. I can find it. I've got some other sources I think would help too. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 04:16, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
