Edits made on 17 January 2006 by 64.132.177.71 were copied directly from http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/exhibits/hof/exhibit-hof.asp and http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/about/about.asp and have been removed. This unfortunately leaves the article without much content. The article needs some rework to include more facts about the Hall of Fame without copyright violation. -- Brianhe 06:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please change the name of the page and the text to reflect the official name: American Motorcyclist Association Motorcycle Hall of Fame[1]

Please change first paragraph to delete “an offshoot of the American Motorcyclist Association” and insert “overseen by the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation.”[2]

Please insert this content under the heading “History” On Aug. 16, 1990, the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation realized a major goal when it opened the Motorcycle Heritage Museum adjacent to the AMA headquarters in Westerville, Ohio. The facility featured exhibits depicting all aspects of motorcycling history. But space was limited, and a larger facility was needed for future growth.[3]

In 1999, the AMHF moved the museum to a new location adjacent to AMA headquarters in Pickerington, Ohio. And with the new facility came a new name, the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum.[4]

Please add this neutral information: 13515 Yarmouth Drive, Pickerington, Ohio 43147 Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day[5]

The Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum is unrelated to the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa. AMA Jim (talk) 20:56, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Some of these changes are doable, some not. Let's start with the first one. The article title is usually just what's needed to uniquely identify the thing, particularly when it's a well known public institution with a commonly used name. I don't see value in changing the article title. We could add a hatnote to refer to National Motorcycle Museum, but I think this is just confusing and the other museum is already listed in the navbox at the bottom of the page. Second: for clarity, can you further explain the relationship between AMA and the A.M. Heritage Foundation? Third, museum hours are not encyclopedic per WP:NOT#DIRECTORY, and I have systematically deleted these when found in other museum articles. — Brianhe (talk) 23:57, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the response and advice regarding my suggested updates to the article. The American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation was established by the AMA to fund and manage the hall of fame and museum. I understand the omission of non-encyclopedic information, such as hours of operation. But I don’t understand the resistance to the suggested change in the title (to the official name) and the suggested change in the text to reflect the organization that is directly responsible for hall of fame oversight. Those seem to me to be neutral, referenced and accurate encyclopedic changes. My efforts on this page and others about the AMA are directed toward providing updated and accurate information for Wikipedia users. I am not trying to promote the AMA or its affiliates in this forum. I completed the Wikipedia introductory tutorial yesterday and better understand the guidelines and policies. And I am trying to work within those parameters to ensure that Wikipedia users receive correct and timely information. Again, I appreciate your candor, your consideration and your time. Perhaps you can better explain exactly what I am doing wrong.AMA Jim (talk) 12:55, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Concerning the name. Did you read WP:COMMONNAME? Having an article title exactly match the organization's own signage at the museum as illustrated in the article seems perfectly appropriate. Overly burdening the article title with corporate details, and burdening the reader with the funding/legal mechanisms that establish it, doesn't seem so. At least to me. Perhaps another editor will chime in here? — Brianhe (talk) 19:43, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for the feedback and explanation of your reasoning. I understand the logic of using the common name as the title. I have read the WP:COMMONNAME entry. And I will accept your decision. But what you term “overburdening” I view as fulfilling the mission of Wikipedia to be encyclopedic. When I turn to a reference source, especially one billed as an encyclopedia, I expect to find an entry that contains accurate and comprehensive information about the topic. Your most recent response abandons the term “encyclopedic,” substituting “appropriate.” I am trying very hard to adhere to the Wikipedia guidelines. And I am trying to meet the standards required for citations. When I originally visited the Hall of Fame page and the American Motorcyclist magazine page, there were notes asking someone to expand the information provided. I am attempting to do that, within the bounds of the stated policies and guidelines. There were labels stating that too much information was being supplied without citations. So I found third-party citations and offered them for inclusion. If my tone seems brusk, it is the result of typing this response, rather than speaking it. I want to be a helper, not a hindrance. I am merely trying to find my way through the Wikipedia process to achieve the goal of providing accurate, complete and up-to-date information about the AMA and its affiliates and publications, so people turning to Wikipedia can find what they seek. I started with the magazine and the Hall of Fame because those are short entries. But I also hope to update the information on the American Motorcyclist Association page, as well. And I would like to get that one right on the first try. Thank you for your time and consideration. ----AMA Jim (talk) 13:39, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In response to User:Brianhe's "Perhaps another editor will chime in here?" question, here are my views. The article title should remain as it is, "Motorcycle Hall of Fame", per WP:COMMONNAME. However, the bold name in the lead should be "AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum", the official, full name, as used in for example, AMA documents (primary source)[6] and motorcycle publications (secondary source).[7] For example, Ogden Newspapers starts with "Ogden Newspapers Inc.", FIFA mentions "Fédération Internationale de Football Association", and McLaren starts with "McLaren Racing Limited". The common name is McLaren, but the official, full name is McLaren Racing Limited. --82.136.210.153 (talk) 18:43, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds reasonable, I've made the change to the name in the infobox and the lede (not the actual article name) you described. Also added a redirect from AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum.
I've closed the Request Edit. Most of the other stuff, like adding hours of operation and the full address, and "realized a major goal" is promotional and/or business listing data, as oppose to encyclopedic material. CorporateM (Talk) 15:30, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
